The Home Buyer Tax Credits Have Been Extended!

The $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and the $6,500 tax credit for repeat home buyers have expired.  (However, service members who were on extended duty outside of the United States for at least 90 days between Jan. 1, 2009 and May 1, 2010, may qualify for a one-year extension.
 
 Similarly, the home buyer credit has also been extended for members of the Armed Forces and certain federal employees serving outside the U.S. have an exra year to buy a principal residence in the U.S. and still qualify for the home buyer credit.  An eligible taxpayer must buy or enter into a binding contract to buy a home by April 30, 2011, and settle on the purchase by June 30, 2011.
